Today at 2:00 pm is the announcement from Todd Gurley II and which school he will attend. As you
are aware the Bulldog world was totally shook up about his ESPN diary, which most read as a Clemson Lock. All the Clemson friends I have spoken with are saying that Gurley will be a Tiger. Of course I do have a differing view.
Allow me to express that Clemson has indeed closed very hard with Todd, as has North Carolina State, and Georgia has been a constant. With any recruit (see Patrick Miller enrolling at Auburn), issues can come up and change a recruits mind sometimes at the very last minute. As you know, we had a legend at UGA flip a coin to decide between us and Clemson, so yeah, anything can happen.
Socrates has been around a few blocks with the recruiting game. At one time when it was allowable, I did just that for UGA for 5 or 6 seasons. I know this game, I know the seediest things can occur, but I can only assure you that Todd Gurley II is a young man above that.
The truth:
There was a key lines yesterday in Todd’s ESPN diary, “ though Clemson offered me late”….”and stopped recruiting me for a while”….”didn’t affect me too much”Clemson did offer late, much later than UGA or UNC did. The truth behind that matter is it DID hurt Todd’s feelings. Todd has never been shy about his love for Spiller and Clemson, this is very true, but of course when the school you idolize tells you they are looking elsewhere and stops recruiting you? How would you feel?..... and then come back after they lost Keith Marshall?
The Clemson Situation:
All I can tell you is that if Gurley is going to commit to Clemson today then the coaching staff is sure unaware of it at Clemson, or they are good at concealing it. Important development is that Ellington the 1000+ yard rusher at Clemson is returning as well. They have stockpiled running backs at Clemson and had only planned on taking one running back.
The UGA Situation:
While Clemson was away, UGA built a solid relationship with Todd. McClendon was with Todd when Marshall chose Georgia. We have never once stopped on our desire to have Todd join us. We have been solid since day one and coach BMac has been a rock with Todd. Recruiting is about relationships and the relationship here is between BMac and Todd Gurley II. In about 80% of the cases, the school that has built the best relationship wins.

Just as strong as before…. when we predicted Todd for UGA….you know I will be wrong with someone, will make a bad prediction, but this one I feel very good about. This morning we all know the ‘other’ predictors will come out with their pick. We will also learn if my prediction is correct. Of course they will wait for the “leak” which always occurs the night before, a few hours or minutes before an announcement. Don’t have to sell subscriptions here and we have more courage than that (we also have the courage to admit when we are wrong).So sit back and enjoy and will be with you at 2 pm for the big announcement.
NOTE: Late last night Kipp Adams of Dawgnation, and Rusty Manzell of Georgia 247 made their calls and they agree it is Georgia for Gurley. Both came out with predictions at about the same time.
