Dawg Daily 28July
Former defensive coordinator Willie Martinez is gone, so Georgia's got that going for them. But it's not going to be a quick-fix in Athens. It's difficult to find the proper personnel to run the 3-4 in college. With only spring practice under his belt at Georgia, Grantham was counting on getting his starters as many reps during fall practice as possible. While the injury might not cost Dent significant game time, the lost practice time will certainly have an impact on the development of the Bulldog defense.
DP: What do you think has generated the recruiting success this year?
SC: Because it's the place to be. I think when you sit down with coach Richt, and when you sit down with the staff and get to Athens, it's kind of like what's not to love about it. It's been probably the best decision of my life.
Richt tells Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club to be patient with Murray:
«We're going to watch a young kid grow up,» Richt told the crowd Monday night. «He's going to make mistakes and we've got to support this kid. We've got to understand that he'll do some things that we wish he didn't do. We're trying to get him to do those in practices and scrimmages as much as possible.»
It may not be Miami and maybe not Memorial Day weekend that the NCAA is interested in:
But -- his Memorial Day activities might not matter.
It appears that the party in question wasn't Memorial Day Weekend
Most of the stories seem to have overlooked this angle, and Tar Heel Fan does a good job of leveling the ideahere. That doesn't mean that A.J. Green was there -- he's also said he's never been to Miami -- but he's going to need another alibi.
Beyond parties, we're talking about gym time
And here we get into a lot of Western schools and at least one Midwestern institution that I'm sure you're familiar with. As we've been saying: Stay tuned to what could become a huge investigation.
2. Georgia: With the Bulldogs going to a 3-4 scheme this season, that means junior pass-rushing specialist Justin Houston now falls into the linebacker category. Houston had 7.5 sacks last season from his end position. Sophomore Cornelius Washington also shifts from end to outside linebacker after collecting four sacks a year ago. The Bulldogs have moved senior starter Darryl Gamble from inside to outside linebacker, while senior Akeem Dent and junior Marcus Dowtin are also back. Dent and Dowtin were part-time starters last season.
The Lady Sportswriter says Ealey on track for 1000 yds in 2010:
Ealey didn't put in his first appearance of the year until the Bulldogs faced LSU in game five of the 2009 season. He was limited to a handful of carries but, ask any fan of the team and they will tell you, without a doubt he was a definite spark in the Georgia Bulldog's offense that day.Ealey only got better as the season progressed and he added an exclamation point at the end by delivering a 183-yard performance against the teams bitter in-state rival, Georgia Tech.2010 offers a new quarterback, a more-experienced offensive line, and a heavier reliance on the run game to get the offense moving. Ealey, along with Caleb King, will be expected to get his mojo going early and it's expected that he will be ready for the challenge.
2010 Georgia football forecast - A long and interesting article that covers every aspect of the team. The author picks each game (he has the same regular season picks that I do) and predicts the Sugar:
I strongly believe two things will improve Georgia's on- and off-the-field issues in the future: discipline and intensity.
I also honestly believe Mark Richt definitely lacks in these two areas. His quiet and collected ways seem to lead to a disconnect between players and coaches.
Richt has proven time and time over that his attitude will likely never change.
But there still is hope for discipline and intensity. Enter new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. At the G-Day game, where I sat at the 50-yard line around 20 rows up, I got my first taste of the new coach.
The Georgia defense had just allowed a scoring drive. Grantham blew his top on the sidelines, huddling all of the defenders together and screaming at the top of his lungs for a strong three minutes.
Everyone in the stands tuned into the sideline shout fest, completely ignoring the first team offense performing on the field. There was unanimous approval from the fans around me, saying, «This guy will make a difference.»
Kiffin is not getting off to a good start with the new AD. I'm setting the over and under on his tenure at USC at 2.5 :
The latest misstep might spell doom, the beginning of the end of Kiffin's coaching career at USC. Only days after the university finally launched a cleansing process from its Hollywood U. days -- returning its replica of Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy, purging all mentions and traces of Bush and fellow probation rogue O.J. Mayo, replacing renegade athletic director Mike Garrett with straight arrow Pat Haden and pledging a clean, compliant way of life -- Kiffin threw yet another greasy knuckleball into the new mission. He invaded the house of the Tennessee Titans, just months after his controversial and abrupt departure from the University of Tennessee, and hired running backs coach Kennedy Pola as his offensive coordinator. The problem: Kiffin, typical of his modus operandi, didn't contact Titans coach Jeff Fisher and ask to speak with Pola. Never mind that Fisher played at USC and cares deeply about the school. Never mind that he's one of the most respected men in the sport.
Auburn may be awarded 2004 national title:
Steve Richardson, the executive director of the Football Writers Association of America, said Monday at the Big 12 media days that in light of the NCAA sanctions against Southern Cal, the FWAA may take away the national title it awarded USC in 2004 and give it to Auburn. The Tigers finished 13-0 that season and finished second in the polls.

This kid keeps popping up to follow your blogs, ecdawg. Some Tech tool has a new hobby-invade and comment on each UGA blog. Some high-schooler in Atlanta.
The Dean Legge column is borne of frustration. And impatience. All of us want the Dawgs to get started on the year, but chain-jerking is not a mature approach to the really great set of players that we have now. Let's all exibit patience and wait until Tuesday. These are different times and individuals culturally. Regressing to the past should be done with memories of SEC Championships and bowl wins under Richt. Don't let impatience and speculation lead us asunder, no matter who is espousing it. Everyone is well-meaning, but thinking positively is the way to deal with our roiling feelings, not sternness. Let's don't let our feelings get ahead of Fall practice and this team's development.

Yeah, I try to ignore the doom-sayers. I'm excited for the opportunity the new season brings.
