A college student got drunk and had a fake I.D. I'm shocked - shocked I tell you! Remerton, GA has an interesting mill-town history - all 136 acres of it.
Zach is not the first, and certainly won't be the last college student getting stung by the Remerton police. It's been a trap for as long as I can remember. Remerton used to be a small cotton mill village (plant closed in 1979), but it has always been a speed trap. Dad used to take the long way around on the way to the ball park, because he was scared of getting a ticket for going 26 in a 25 mph zone. And the last 10-15 years, Remerton has turned into a small party district for the nearby college students. And yes, the police has a rep for almost stalking students out doing the late night scene.
Mettenberger made a mistake. And he'll pay for it (stadium steps, increased scrutiny, probable suspension). Hopefully he'll learn a lesson. And he'll overcome this. But the timing stinks.
Why was he in Valdosta? Visiting high school buddies and checking them out in the VSU Blazer spring football game. And a night of fun turned into a nightmare. Advantage Logan Gray and Aaron Murray.
Interesting article by Patrick Garbin about the UGA victory over Alabama in 1910 and the celebration that followed. That celebration would result in many arrests today.
Speaking of Bama - As the Tahd was meeting with President Obama, the White House press secretary (an AU grad) was tweeting the following from his office:
As Pres welcomes Red Elephants to WH, I prefer to remember the other 58 mins of Iron Bowl WDE!

Something that hit the Internet this week reflects the contradiction of the times. Only Florida and LSU (three) have won more SEC titles in this decade than Georgia (two), but to most Bulldog critics, you would have thought the bottom dropped out the last two years.
Mark Inabinett of the Mobile Press-Register came up with an interesting
summary that shows Georgia in a favorable light when compared with the SEC elite in the last decade. Georgia is third in wins with 98 (two behind Florida with 100 and LSU with 99); second in SEC wins with 55 (six behind Florida with 61); and first against other BCS leagues with 20 wins (LSU is second with 13).
Georgia (8-2) has the best record in the SEC of the teams which have played 10 bowl games during the last decade. (LSU is 7-3 and Florida 5-5).
Auburn goes 8-5, and coaches get a raise. Georgia posts an 8-5 record, and there is an outcry for coaches' heads.
From the paragon of personal finance department:
Antonio Cromartie: «The Jets fronted Antonio Cromartie $500,000 of his 2010 salary to help him clean up his lingering paternity issues. Cromartie, 25, who's due to make $1.7 million this season in the final year of his five-year, $12 million contract, has some outstanding paternity payments to make. Because players don't begin collecting on their salary until the first week of the regular season, Cromartie needed money now to make the payments he needs to make.» Yup, this move has disaster written all over it. Can't wait for his inevitable court appearance related to one of his baby-mamas in the middle of the postseason. [NY Post]

Coach Richt : «You feel sad and sick that one of the guys you're an authority figure over and you care about got himself in trouble.» «You also hate the fact those guys do represent this program and this program represents this university and this university represents this state. It represents anybody who claims to be a Bulldog. I feel sick about that.» «It's certainly been a distraction,» Richt said. «I mean there's no way you can say it hasn't been a distraction, because it has been.»
2-6 last 2 years vs Final Top 25 in the polls UGA Bulldogs, not up to standard.

That sure is an impressive list you've got there. My quick count was 90 «infractions». They roughly break down like this: 15 are comments by the author and not player problems - 7 involve theft of long distance (probably one incident - I don't remember) - 12 weed - 4 rules suspensions (probably weed) - 1 inaccurate accusation - 1 vandalism - 7 DUI - 1 failed drug test (probably weed) - 22 drinking - 3 serious crimes - 3 bad grades - 8 traffic offenses - 1 involved a coach.
The one that I found really interesting was the UGA player raping a UF player during the game. I'm glad I was not in Jax to see that.
Puh-leeze - 75 to 80 problems in nine years - most of them typical college student stuff. Where is the problem? What actions would you take to produce a different outcome?

Inaccurrate accusation ?
I don't think I found them all. There isn't any 1 place to look. It seemed like until last season that it happened every month that there was an arrest / suspension. I realize that we have an open policy that all such incidents are provided to the AJ-C and that others attempt to hide them.
In view of Coach Richt statements himself which are in quotes but show like a different character around them on this software for some odd reason, I guess I thought it was not all that good that we stayed in the news for bad press.
