Recruiting Update 09Mar
Mar 09
UGA commit Corey Moore had a big weekend at NUC (Scout$$$):
«I not only wanted to show everyone that Georgia was recruiting top players, but I wanted to compete with some other top players. I wanted to see how I stacked up against some top receivers, what I could learn, and show that I am the best safety in Georgia.»
David Shuman's decision to name Moore the top safety wasn't a tough one. Moore is known for delivering big hits from his safety position and closing on the ball well inside the box, but he had not known shown his type of coverage skills on film that he showed on Sunday. Not only was able to open up his hips and run with talented wide receivers and put guys on the ground within the first couple of yards, but he looked to compete at every opportunity.
There is no doubt about that. He walked away being the top defensive back, but Moore doesn't feel he showed his very best out there on Sunday.
Thomasville's Ray Drew has interests other than football:
In addition to daily workouts in the Thomas County Central weight room and track practice — he's a state-ranked thrower — the 6-foot-5, 240-pound, bluechip football prospect is a licensed minister. He works out of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville and spreading the Lord's word is his life's passion. In fact, what little spare time Drew has had of late has been spent preparing for a three-day revival this week in Ochlocknee.
Dawgs Opinion lists his latest ranking of 2011 recruiting classes. Number 4 is a surprize to me:
1. LSU, 97 points, 9 commits, 3.33 avg rating
2. Alabama, 32 points, 3 commits, 3.66 avg rating
3. Georgia, 27 points, 4 commits, 2.50 avg rating

The NUC (National Underclassman Combine) is taking place at TriCities H.S. I'll be updating players stats 0f interest to Dawg fans as they become available through Scouts.
Two Georgia commits, Corey Moore and Amarlo Herrera are there today. Moore has run a 4.60 and 4.5 40-yard dash. Herrera ran a 4.74 and 4.85 40. Moore ran a 4.50 shuttle, while Nile Daniel ran a 4.20...
Corey Moore is having what has to be called a break-out day. He's better in coverage than Chad thought he would be, but still has the ability to jam foes at the line. Chad thinks he could be in line for the MVP award. He is also very eager to be there... jumping into the drill as much as possible, The coaches at the event are pleased with him... Herrea is being forced to deal with smaller running backs, and that means he's not having a great matchup day.
Corey had an OUTSTANDING day... He was named the top DB there and looked BETTER than I expected in man to man coverage. He really opened up his hips well and ran with receivers.
Herrera is a middle backer all the way as I said before and he is just too big to run with those little scat-backs out of the backfield. Very physical and confident though.
A couple of guys that impressed me were...
Tarik Cook - Stephenson - Center: He is very strong, he has a nice punch, and good technique... I missed him on my top 50, but no real tape hurts him. He is a definitely high 3 star at the worst and will be in my updated rankings for sure.
Zach Witchett - Washington - WR: He is a vertical threat that gets great separation. He really chases the ball down well and adjusts to the ball nicely.
Nile Daniel - Griffin - WR: This kid is slick and slippery... Good hands, quicker than fast, but really makes guys lose their balance when running his routes.
Kyle Harris - Pepperrell - OL: He had a solid day, but was probably the 3rd best OL today. He has very good feet and he has good hand placement, but he loses his balances, he lunges a little at times, and he does not hold his blocks like he should.
NUC's top sophomore:
Jordan Jenkins was the talk of the event for about three or four hours. As soon as the 6-foot-3, 230 pound sophomore defensive end ran the 40 yard dash in 4.67 seconds, he was the talk of the event.
During the one on one session, he was stopped one time, but the rest of the time he was dominant. He used speed off the edge to beat the offensive linemen to the outside, he used the swim move a couple of times and the linemen hardly touched him, and he worked the spin move in there as well.
