Recruiting Update 05Mar

From AJC 10 @ 10:

Dantzler

It is gradually becoming evident what the disconnect is between Georgia and Clarke Central offensive tackle Alan Posey (6-6, 310). The Bulldogs simply have a lot of other tackles above Posey on their board. Dalton's Watts Dantzler (6-7, 315), who visited UGA for junior day last Saturday, is their top target (Dantzler's father, the late Danny Dantzler, was a UGA letterman). Georgia also appears to lead for tackle Xzavier Ward (6-7, 255) of Colquitt County. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have also entered the sweepstakes for four-star tackles Bobby Hart (6-5, 270) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Antonio Richardson (6-6, 310) of Nashville, Tenn.; and Brandon Shell (6-7, 310) of Goose Creek, S.C. It's not likely the Dogs would sign many more than two or three tackles. Pepperell's Kyle Harris is an interior lineman on their radar screen.

Fullback this year?

According to one depth chart I have seen we will lose Chapas to graduation along with both his backups, Fred Munzenmaier and Justin Fields.

The two guys that I think would make a nice fit are Tyler Cierski and Jacob Baxter.

Tyler Cierski is out of Mill Creek HS in Hoschton, GA and currently holds oan offer from Maryland which he picked up just yesterday. Cierski did attend the first Junior Day for the Bulldogs back in January. Cierski comes in at 6'1» 240 lbs, runs a 4.65 40 and can bench 325lbs. From the film that I have seen of him he reminds me a lot of Mike Alstott when he is running the ball, his speed is decent enough once he breaks though he can gain an extra 10-15 yards before he is brought down.

Jacob Baxter is out of Brookland Cayce HS in West Columbia, SC and currently does not hold any offers yet. Baxter comes in at 6'1» 240lbs and runs a 4.6 40. From the film I have watched Baxter is a straight between the tackles fullback just lowering his head and gaining what he can.

Maryland has offered Cierski but he sounds in these quotes like he is looking for a UGA offer.

«I know I would work my hardest to improve myself and the program I end up playing for. Georgia, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Alabama, South Carolina, Duke, North Carolina, Harvard, Miami and Auburn have all shown good interest so far. We'll see what happens from here. With Maryland being my first offer, I feel a sort of extra interest in them, although I know to keep my mind open to all opportunities. I have family in Maryland, which makes the offer more interesting.»

«Maryland had been paying me lots of attention, and so had UGA, Wake Forest, Alabama, Duke, UCONN, Virginia Tech, NC State South Carolina. I am happy to be receiving interest from the big Ivy League schools as well, because I realize it is not just what you do on the field but what you can accomplish after you graduate. That is very important to me.

UGA may offer Ra'Chard Pippens (6' 1» 181 lbs.) of McDonough. He has just received an offer from South Carolina. (Scout$$$)

«I am getting a good vibe from them and I think something (offer) could happen, but you never know. I talked to Coach [Scott] Lakatos and he told me that he is very interested in me. He watched my film against Henry County and he said he liked how I came up and made tackles. He likes big corners, so he said he was very interested in me.» «I really liked Coach Lakatos, I got to meet Coach [Todd] Grantham (Defensive Coordinator), and everything was great over at Georgia. They all showed me a lot of attention, they made themselves known, they welcomed me in, and I have a lot of interest in them.»

Justin Scott of Camilla has reopened his recruiting. The former Stanford verbal is believed to have UGA #1 now:

Scott is known for his speed as he runs s a 4.4 40. Scott attended the Bulldogs night camp last year and had a great time. He is out of Mitchell County HS in Camille, GA. During the last contact period Mark Richt and Mike Bobo spoke with Scott and made sure that he knew the Bulldogs still wanted him. Scott plans to attend the next Junior Day on March 20th.

Scout.com ($$$) updates on several players:

Chad Simmons of Scout says of Nick Marshall, «I feel UGA has pulled into the lead here, but the school to watch closely in both football and basketball is FSU.  The Dawgs are on track to have a stellar in-state haul in 2011 and Marshall would be a key to that success.

UGA is looking with interest at Pepperrell OL Kyle Harris Pepperrell OL Kyle Harris. Harris is a guard and is drawing interest from several programs. There are question about his size at 260.

Xzavier Dickson: UGA got the recruit and father on campus and they are now working on getting the mother into town.  The visit to Athens this past weekend was huge for Georgia and it really swung things in recruiting.  There is no doubt that Dickson is a MAJOR target for Georgia in 2011.  He fits perfectly in my opinion in the new 3-4 scheme.  Alabama ran that scheme when they offered him in 2009, Georgia did not.  As soon as Grantham took over, Griffin was one of the first schools he stopped at and then offered Dickson one day later.  That is how much Grantham likes him.

Mike Bellamy is one of the top running backs in the country and UGA is very high on his list.  It looks like it is going to come down to Florida and Georgia for Bellamy.  Some people I trust down in Florida feel Georgia has as good or better chance at Bellamy than UF at this time because of Mack Brown signing in 2010 and the odds of James Wilder committing to Florida at a running back in 2011. McClendon has gotten in good with the coaches at Charlotte and Bellamy himself.  Georgia is a real threat here and I feel Bellamy and Isaiah Crowell are the top two backs on UGA's board as of now.  Quan Bray could be right there and Chevelle Buie too, but if I had to name a top two, it would be those guys. Bellamy and Crowell could really balance each other out because Bellamy is a burner that works in space while Crowell is a back that is more powerful with break-away speed.  His name stays out of the media a lot because he is a quiet kid and he avoids interviews, but do not be fooled here, Georgia is in it big-time.

Gabe Wright: Can UGA break the wall at Carver and get Wright next February?  They are in it, right in the middle of it, and we will likely know around the time we enter 2011.  One thing in Georgia's favor is Gabe's girlfriend – she is a UGA fan, she got her picture taken with Mark Richt recently, and she wants her man to stay home.  Will that help?  We shall see.

Watts Danztler's late father played at UGA so he has been around Athens all his life and been a Bulldog fan all his life.  He is also very close with David Andrews and the two have talked about playing together at Georgia.  Yes, other schools are making an impression on the 6-foot-7, 312 pound OT out of Dalton, but none are in his heart like Georgia in my opinion.  He is playing it very cool and not tipping his hand at all and I truly believe he is giving each school a fair look, but in the end, it is hard for me seeing him going anywhere other than Georgia.

Ray Drew: I felt Georgia was in good shape before that visit, but I now feel they are in great shape.  I know someone that is very close to Drew and he a well respected adult down in South Georgia and he feels Georgia is in the lead like I do.  The connection Drew has made with Mark Richt is going to be tough for any coach to match in my opinion.  The religious side of things, the way Richt runs the program, the FCA program in Athens, and just being an in-state school have Georgia in the driver's seat at this time.

UGA has offered the folowing 2012 prospects:

Deion Bonner – CB – Columbus, Ga. – CarverVadal Alexander – OT – Buford, Ga. – Buford

Dakota Ball – DT – Lindale, Ga. – Peperrell

Chris Black – WR/CB – Jacksonville, Fla. – First Coast

Matt Jones – ATH - Seffner, Fla. - Armwood

and is looking at these: John Theus (OT – Jacksonville, Fla.), Brian Poole (CB – Bradenton, Fla.), Trae Elston (CB – Oxford, Ala.), Gray Crow (QB – Ocala, Fla.), Tony Clark (RB – Douglas, Ga.), Alex Jauregui (OT – Suwanee, Ga.)
