Recruiting Update 01Mar

Mar 01

XDickson The Dawgs want Xzavier Dickson. Dickson is non-commital about UGA, so far. He did stay overnight in Athens after Junior Day with his friend, Georgia commit, Corey Moore.

«It was good to come here and check things out with Corey,» said Dickson, who favors the Tide at the moment. «This did help me know what it would be like at Georgia.»  I wanted to make sure where I stood with early playing time,» Dickson said. «I wanted to know how much I would get.»

...the new defensive staff has identified Dickson as a player they need to complete their recruiting plans in the future. The switch to a 3-4 instead of a 4-3 defense is one reason why Dickson didn't get offered as early as Alabama. The Bulldogs need him more now than they did then - because of the scheme alone. Only time will tell what Dickson will do. His teammate, Moore, however, has a suggestion. «He's been telling me that he wants me to go to Georgia with him all day,» Dickson said. (Scout.com $$$)

ZWinchett 150x150Zach Witchett loved Athens.

«The visit was great and I just did not really want to leave,» said Zach Witchett. «I got to see some things I did not see the last time I was there, I got some one on one time with Coach [Mark] Richt and Coach [Tony] Ball, and I just felt the love at Georgia. I felt like I was right at home there.»

«Coach Richt and Coach Ball explained to me how there is a chance that A.J. Green may go to the NFL after next season and that they were definitely losing Kris Durham to graduation, and Israel Troupe still loves baseball a lot, so they are not going to have a lot of receivers coming back.» «They are only going to have about five or six on scholarship after next year and they told me that I have that speed, size, and aggressiveness that they want. They told me that I could come in and have a chance to make an immediate impact.» «Both coaches made is clear that they wanted me at Georgia. I really liked hearing what they had to say today.»

Richt and Ball were not the only people recruiting the 6-foot, 185 pound wideout that ran the 40 yard dash in a blazing 4.43 seconds on January 31 at the Scout Showcase.

SBailey Sterling Bailey was late getting to Athens for Junior Day. (Scout.com $$$)

«I did not get over to Georgia until late because of my great-grandmother's funeral, so I only got to watch the second half of the basketball game,» said Sterling Bailey. «As soon as I got there, Coach [Todd] Grantham came and picked my dad, my cousin, and myself up. I sat with Coach Grantham during the game and we talked about the game, a little about football, and we had a lot of regular talk.»«After the game, we went back over to the Butts-Mehre building and talked some more. Coach Grantham is a guy that I really like. He has everything together, he knows what he wants to do at Georgia, he wants to step up the defense to make it one of the best in the SEC, and help Georgia become a top program in the nation.»

«We went into one of the conference rooms there, we talked about me a little bit, and then he showed me some film. He showed me how he would like to use me, he showed me how to improve my technique, and he showed me some moves to use in high school. Meeting with him was great.»

«Coach Richt's beliefs mean a lot to me. We have that spiritual connection and that is so important to both of us. We have a lot of the same beliefs, we are both religious people, and that is important to me.»

Bailey holds 18 offers and he is not ready to name a top group just yet, but he did say that Georgia is high on his list after Saturday's visit.

CPeake 150x150 Charone Peake enjoyed himself this weekend in Athens (Scout.com$$$).

«I went to a Junior Day at Georgia last year and they offered me a scholarship the next day, so I have been in touch with Georgia for a long time now. »Since the offer, Peake has visited Athens a number of times. He knows he is high on their list and the reiterated that during this visit. «Coach [Tony] Ball (Wide Receivers Coach) told me that he really wants to coach me at Georgia. He told me he needs me there and he wants me to be a part of the Georgia program. Coach [Mark] Richt said the same things to me too. I like both of those coaches.»

«I am just comfortable at Georgia, I know the staff very well, and I like it there. I enjoyed talking with Coach Ball, Coach [Mark] Richt, and I will probably be back there in the spring to watch them practice.»

«Coach Richt talked to me for a while during the visit and we talked about my academics, their depth chart, how he wants me at Georgia, and spring practice. He is a cool guy and he is cool to talk to.»

JRose 150x150Jonathan Rose excited about offer from UGA. (Scout.com $$$)

«I have received an offer from Georgia,» said Jonathan Rose from Leeds, Ala. «I talked to a coach from Georgia the other day. He said he saw my film on Scout.com, and they wanted to send me an offer. I am excited about it. I am ready to see what they have to offer.

«I watched them through the years. I haven't really looked into them. It's nice. I like how they run everything. I like the pro-style defense. They run a 3-4 defense. I like it, and I am going to check them out.»

CHRISTIANLEMAY7 22150 150x150Looks like Christian LeMay and his brother had a good visiti to Athens.

LeMay had a chance to meet coach Mike Bobo and coach Bryan McClendon and spoke with them about how he felt about the system that Georgia runs and how he would fit in to it. Georgia runs a pro-style system which is the same system that Butler HS runs.

When you talk to LeMay the one thing you notice is that he is very spirtual. This could really help Georgia as coach Mark Richt is also a very spirtual person, LeMay had a chance to speak with Richt about this and where the two of them each stood with their spirtuality.

LeMay has stated from the beginning of his recuitment that he will not verbally commit until he is 100% certain where he is going, but he will name a leader. He is doing this because he views it that when you give a verbal it is like giving your word and he will not break his word. LeMay stated that «Georgia is in the top 10.» Lemay is planning on being back in Athens sometime this spring and catching a game next fall. He stated that he will have a top 5 by June or July.

Dean Legge of Scout. com said today.

On the offensive side of the ball I hear the Dawgs are doing a little better than people think when it comes to recruiting presumed Clemson lock Jay Rome. That's encouraging to hear. Rome is going to be a very tough pull, but just fighting like made to get him is improvement in my eyes.

D Ball 150x150 2012 lineman Dakota Ball of Pepperell High gets verbal from UGA.

Dakota Ball must be pinching himself after the last 3 weeks. As a Sophomore he has already picked up offers from Alabama, Clemson and today University of Georgia. What other coaches did you get to speak with?

Ball-» I spoke with Coach Searles and Coach Garner. The spoke to me about playing Defensive tackle.»

What was the biggest surprise about your visit other than your offer?

Ball-» To me it was how down to earth Coach Richt is. He doesn't act like he is any different than anybody else. I really liked him.»

Junior Day Update:

Kipp Adams from Rivals.com is reporting that Devin Bowman was not able to make it to Athens this weekend because his mother had to work. Bowman will be contacting the Georgia coaching staff today to reschedule his visit to Athens. Damian Swann also is not at Junior Day due to a baseball game that he is playing. There are two additions to the Junior Day list. Jeff Greene, 1 star WR, out of Sierra Mills HS, GA and Thomas O'Reilly, 3 star G, out of Pope HS, GA are in Athens. Greene would be great addition to our redzone offense as he stand 6'6». O'Reilly is on the GA Top 50 list and has a high interest in Georgia Tech right now, hopefully Mark Richt and the coaching staff can sway him away GT.

Feb 27

JVaughtersJames Vaughters has cut his list to ten. He actually called each of the schools that he cut to let them know personally.

«I like Coach Richt and his staff and their focus on character and the whole person. UGA is close to home, so my family and friends can watch me play often. The new defensive staff brings great NFL experience and UGA has a good track record with Tucker High guys.»

Rivals is reporting that Isaiah Crowell will not be at Junior Day in Athens.

Crowell has a family commitment and that is why he is not going to be able to attend but Gabriel Wright and Quincy McKinney left about an hour ago and are enroute to Athens.

Next year Uriah is excited about being able to catch passes from his brother and try to win another state championship.
