Russ has no chance of being the permanent mascot even if a new Uga is not ready for the opener. He will continue to sub if needed.

«There is no chance of Russ being VIII because he is too old, and we don't want to cheat the mascot out of longevity, so we would never pick a dog that old,» Seiler said. «But he's served well, he's a good-looking dog, and we would not hesitate to start the season with him if we haven't selected a puppy or we've selected a puppy, but the puppy is not big enough to adequately perform.»

It is too bad that Russ will not have the opportunity to become the mascot. However, he seemed indifferent to the attention. In fact, he appeared prefer the serious work of being a dawg and not the Dawg.

Notes: The word from the coaching staff is that this is an open competition this spring, so it's hard to say who will win the job for sure. Still, the reports on Murray have all been glowing, and the common wisdom among pundits seems to be that Murray will land the job eventually -- perhaps as soon as the end of spring practice. If that happens, there's a chance that Gray could move to receiver.

1. All 5 OL Return: The Bulldogs entire offensive line has been together for at least two seasons. With Clint Boling at LT and Ben Jones at C the Bulldogs have two outstanding OL to lead this team. If this unit is able to continue the dominance they ended the season with we will have probably of the best offensive lines in the nation next year. The Bulldogs should have no problem going back to the old Dawg Day's of run first pass second.

Starr underachieved in college and tanked a once great program. He was then a very low draft pick in the NFL. His rookie year, he sat and watched as his team's starting QB tied an NFL record for touchdowns. In his second year he was alright, posting decent numbers for a QB, and good numbers for a young QB, but he won just one game for his team. And in his third year, he was unquestionably the worst quarterback in the NFL, while his team went 0-6-1. We've got an underachieving player without much talent who is clearly regressing. Enough's enough: it's time to bench Bart Starr.

Scout's Dean Legge ($$$) says the Dawgs QB will be a definite upgrade in 2010. He along with the rest of the world picks Aaron Murray to win the job. He is particularly harsh in his assessment of Joe Cox saying, «too many times he was the reason Georgia lost a game or the reason they didn't win it».
