UGA Recruiting Update 30Jan

I'm in a contest that will help pay for my sick mother's operation, help me work my way through college and build a new home for sick, homeless kitties. All you have to do to be a part of this effort is follow me on Twitter! Follow now! Lead later!
Bernie's Countdown to Signing Day - 4 discusses Da'Rick Rogers and which recruit(s) are likely to replace him if he heads north
First and foremost, Michael Bennett
6'3», 185 Alpharetta
Bennett has been committed to Coach Richt since early summer and will make that official on Wednesday. He may not have the breakaway speed of some of the others in this class, but he is a well rounded prospect with good hands.
Updated Tom Lemming Top 100 and MaxPrep's updated team rankings (TX #1). After all the hype about UF's class - greatest ever etc. - I can't wait to here what is said about Texas
Jeff Whitaker of Warner Robbins talked bout his decision with The Macon Telegraph. He will announce Monday.
...he won't be doing the traditional picking from a row of hats because he doesn't want it to seem like a slap in the face of the other coaches who recruited him. «I'm not playing games with those men when I make my pick,» he said.
DB Jakar Hamilton. Originally a middling prospect from South Carolina who didn't make the grades to catch on with the Gamecocks, Hamilton blossomed immediately at Georgia Military College and committed to Georgia after an All-American freshman season; he eventually landed as Rivals' No. 2 JUCO prospect after his sophomore campaign. Hamilton is enrolled for spring practice, and with Reshad Jones and Bryan Evans both en route to the NFL, «Hit Man» should have a starting safety job waiting for him right away alongside Bacarri Rambo.
Chris Low looks a some recruiting nobodies who made it big - offense
OL Clint Boling Georgia: He's started since he was a freshman and has lined up just about everywhere up front for the Bulldogs while earning first- or second-team All-SEC honors both as a sophomore and junior. Georgia beat Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Duke and Wake Forest to get Boling.
ESPN's Andy Staples lists the 15 best recruiting classes of all time - UGA 1980 is #11
Seven members of this class were selected in the NFL draft, but it was the player who wound up in the USFL that made it one of the best recruiting hauls ever. Tailback Herschel Walker left early and arrived late. If you thought 2009 tailback Bryce Brown and 2008 quarterback Terrelle Pryor were the first blue-chippers to prolong the drama of their recruitments, you don't know your history. Walker, the nation's top recruit in 1980, didn't sign until Easter Sunday.

Telvin Smith is still undecided and Da'Rick Rogers is being recruited by his best friend...for Vols.
Telvin Smith: So confused is Smith between Georgia and Florida State, Davis reports, that Smith is taking a second look at both places. He's driving down to Tallahassee today and up to Athens and UGA tomorrow. «He really has not decided»
«Surely Nash is going to try to recruit [Rogers]. He'd rather be playing with him than against him,» he said of the five-star wide receiver
Georgia (the state) has produced more SEC commitments than Florida so far.
So how is the Peach State out-pacing the Sunshine State in terms of SEC commitments? My first guess would be that SEC teams have only Georgia Tech to deal with in the state of Georgia… whereas league teams must compete with Florida State, Miami, South Florida and to a lesser extent FIU, FAU and Central Florida in the state of Florida. In other words, there might be more prospects in Florida, but those prospects have more non-SEC programs to choose from. A study of the above list also shows what most of us already knew — the programs at Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to recruiting. There just isn't much SEC-caliber football talent coming out of those states.
Clemson blogger complains about UGA recruiting.
- Carver OG David Beasley took an official visit to UGA after saying he was done with his recruitment and telling UGA to back away. Thing is, he didnt say it to Richt/Searels' face, he does it via messages. UGA won't back off him until he does that, and he hasnt. He always says he wants to come to Clemson, but UGA was in-home with his parents while Dabo waited outside to see them next. This feels like A.J. Harmon again to me and of all our commits this feels the most shaky.
- I think UGA has done a pisspoor job in evaluating players under Richt. They always seem to come in late on a prospect, be it from late offers or lazy evaluations. They are in a supremely talent-rich state where most all the people love UGA. GT isnt a real threat to them, though Auburn/FSU are in south Georgia. UGA should have 20 commits by March almost every year. Instead they come in late and pull them away.
A look at the top 25 prospects of 2006 - Where are they now?
5. Matthew Stafford (Highland Park, Texas/Highland Park)
Position: QB
College: Georgia
Stafford took over as the starter at Georgia as a freshman and never looked back. In his three seasons at the helm, the Bulldogs went 27-7. He threw for nearly 8,000 yards and 51 touchdowns in Athens. With his production and incredible physical ability, the Detroit Lions made Stafford the top pick in the 2009 NFL draft. In 10 starts for the Lions, he passed for more than 2,200 yards and 13 touchdowns (against 20 interceptions).
