Is Richt waiting for Travis Jones?

Former UGA player Travis Jones, roundly rumored recently as a candidate for a spot on the Bulldogs'  coaching staff, is New Orleans' assistant defensive line coach. Jones is in his second season with the Saints  after previously coaching under Nick Saban with LSU and the Miami Dolphins.  Jones'  coaching career began in 1997 as a graduate assistant at UGA, where he played on the defensive line (1990-94).  A lot of Bulldogs fans would love to see him fill the UGA staff's remaining opening for a linebackers coach (he worked with the outside linebackers in Miami for a couple of years, by the way.)

The BCS pay-out.

The distribution is based on a formula created in 2004 by the BCS commissioners and approved by the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee. The revenue distribution has varied little over the four years of the most recent media contract with Fox, which pays an average of $82.5 million annually. The media deal accounts for most of the revenue, while the rest comes from revenue generated by the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta and Orange bowls, and the national championship game.

Clay Travis has 10 predictions for the SEC in 2010. One of them is that UGA will finish 7-5 and that the program is «taking on water».

Like 2009, the Bulldogs will go 7-5. Only this upcoming season the schedule is much easier. No matter. The Bulldogs are taking on water and they can't bail out fast enough. Both the offense and defense will be weaker. And even in a weakened SEC east, the Bulldogs will be in trouble.

UGABlog.com disagrees:

Sure there are more than just new QBs and a new defense to look forward to for next season, but those two things, combined with our abundance of existing talent, are going to bring the Dawgs back to the forefront of the SEC and the top 10 of all of college football!

23 KlThe real story of the peanut butter kid.

Why this kid would cover himself in PB became crystal clear as the seconds on the clocked ticked down and UGA was about to wrap up its first win vs. a top 10 team at home since the Jim Harrick era. The students were reminded to NOT rush the court, when the game ended all but about 4 obliged. Peanut Butter Kid knew the rules didn't apply to him. As he rushed the court there wasn't a security guard or police officer willing to go anywhere near this kid.

Behind the Columns says wait and see on Grantham:

Ever since the initial let down of not getting Kirby Smart to replace Willie Martinez, Georgia fans have been drooling over newly hired DC Todd Grantham. He seems to fit just about every qualification that Mark Richt and the entire Bulldog Nations was searching for. He is a no bs guy who has tons of football knowledge and experience and is eager to make the rest of the SEC fear the Junkyard Dawgs again. I have to say that I have not been immune to the excitement around campus and the entire fan base. This guy just has it all.

Dr. Saturday has posted a play-off piece.

The overwhelming opinion of fans and the occasional mutterings of discontent from big-name coaches is one thing; the College Football Playoff Act of 2009 -- a bill introduced by Texas Republican and diehard Aggie fan Joe Barton to kill the BCS, or at least strip it of the only term that gives it meaning, «championship» -- is another level entirely.

T. Kyle King is a playoff opponent.

I would prefer a return to the old bowl arrangements of the 1980s, but that isn't happening. Hinton's and Favre's fellow Mississippian, William Faulkner, wrote that, when faced with the choice between grief and nothing, he would take grief. Likewise, when forced to choose between the Bowl Championship Series and a Division I-A college football playoff, I will opt for the BCS as the lesser of two evils.

Dan McGill turns 89.

Happy Birthday to the Greatest Bulldog Ever…Dan Magill turning 89 years young – and still going as strong as ever, certain to soon add a few more tennis championships to his unparalleled resume.
A true renaissance man who has meant so much to so many, the Magnificent Magill has been the heart and soul of Georgia athletics since attending the 1929 victory over Yale in the dedicatory game of Sanford Stadium.

Chris Low (ESPN) looks at Urban's weirdness:

I still don't understand how we got from Meyer stepping away from coaching full time in order to put his family first and take care of his own health, to this latest audible: Meyer plans to be there for spring practice and really doesn't plan on taking much of a leave of absence at all.

2010 Senior Bowl rosters.

Here's an idea from the Wall Street Journal to end the sudden death plaoyoff in the NFL:

My favorite idea for a new OT system is that of an auction, in which each team bids for starting field position. The team that is willing to start with worse field position would be awarded the ball. Its opponent can't complain because it doesn't deem such a field position advantageous. Last year Slate's Tim Harford reviewed the history of such a proposal, and suggested a fun scenario in which the referee would act as auctioneer. That's better than a coin flip from both an entertainment and a fairness perspective.
